Common questions

Heads up: the AMBOSS app and its Premiere panel are German only for now. Where the app, Premiere or macOS shows a German message, we quote it in German and add the English meaning, so you can match it to what is on your screen.

Getting started

What do I need to use AMBOSS?

Two things:

  1. A Mac with an Apple chip (M1 or newer) and Adobe Premiere Pro (2023 / version 23 or newer).
  2. An AMBOSS licence — the licence key arrives by email automatically after your purchase.

You do not need your own AI accounts or API keys — the entire AI runs through AMBOSS.

Which Premiere Pro and macOS version do I need?

AMBOSS runs on Premiere Pro 2023 (version 23) and newer, on a Mac with an Apple chip. We still recommend running the latest version of both:

  • Premiere Pro — update it in Creative Cloud (Creative Cloud → Updates).
  • macOS — keep it current under System Settings → General → Software Update.

On current versions the panel connects most reliably and you run into the fewest problems.

How do I install AMBOSS?

The full walkthrough with video is on the installation page. In short: your purchase email contains your licence key and, right below it, the download link for the app. Download the app, drag AMBOSS into your Applications folder and enter the licence key from the email on first launch. The app sets up the Premiere panel by itself after that.

macOS says the app "cannot be opened" — what now?

That is macOS Gatekeeper being cautious with new apps. The fix: right-click the app → "Open" → confirm "Open" once more in the dialog. You only need this on the very first launch. There is a step-by-step version on the download page as well.

How do I connect AMBOSS to Premiere Pro?

Open Premiere Pro → menu "Window" → "Extensions" → "AMBOSS". The small panel connects to the AMBOSS app on its own (both have to be running). Once you have a sequence open, the app pulls in the state of your timeline — with long sequences that can take up to a minute.

Does AMBOSS change my timeline without me knowing?

No. AMBOSS suggests, you decide. Every step (rough cut, cleanup, zooms …) is shown to you first, and every applied step can be undone — the app creates a restore point before each change.

AI video generation

Do I need my own AI account or API key?

No. The entire AI runs through AMBOSS — both the edit analysis and the AI video generation. There is no account to create anywhere, nothing to top up and no keys to set up. Enter your licence key and you are done.

How does AI video generation work?

AMBOSS can generate AI videos from your material (e.g. B-roll or transform clips). Every plan includes a monthly allowance — around 10 generations a month on Solo, around 25 on Pro. The editing itself (rough cut, cleanup, zooms, captions, motion design) is separate from that and unlimited.

What happens when my monthly AI video allowance is used up?

Editing carries on without limits — only AI video generation is used up for that month. You can top up more generations at any time, no hassle, or simply wait for the next month, when your included allowance refills automatically.

Licence, subscription & billing

How do I get my licence key after buying?

Automatically by email, usually within a few minutes of payment (sender: lizenz@amboss-app.de). Check your spam folder too. If nothing has arrived after 15 minutes, write to us — we will sort it out immediately.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — you can try the Solo plan free for 3 days. You add a credit card, but nothing is charged during the trial. You can cancel any time before it ends at whop.com/orders and nothing will be billed. If you do not cancel, the trial rolls over into the Solo subscription (€49/month) automatically.

What is the difference between Solo and Pro?

Both plans have the exact same feature set, and editing is unlimited. The only difference is the AI video generations included each month: around 10 on Solo, around 25 on Pro. You can move from Solo to Pro later at any time — just drop us a line.

How many machines can I use AMBOSS on?

One licence is meant for one workstation. If you switch computers, drop us a line — we will move the licence over to your new Mac.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You manage your subscription at our payment provider Whop: whop.com/orders (log in with the email address you bought with → pick your membership → "Cancel membership"). It can be cancelled monthly; after cancelling, your access runs until the end of the period you paid for and then ends automatically.

My payment is declined ("Zahlung kann derzeit nicht verarbeitet werden", German for "payment cannot be processed right now") — what can I do?

We accept every common card brand (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners, JCB, UnionPay) — no card type is blocked on our side. When a payment fails, it is almost always declined by your bank, not by us. The usual reasons:

  • Prepaid or virtual cards that your bank blocks for subscriptions and recurring payments
  • Cards that are not cleared for international or foreign-currency payments
  • An unfinished 3D Secure confirmation (the approval in your banking app)
  • Insufficient funds, an expired card or mistyped card details

The fastest fix: try a different card (ideally a regular credit or debit card, not a prepaid one), confirm the 3D Secure prompt in your banking app, or ask your bank why the payment is being blocked. If it still does not go through, write to us at support@amboss-app.de — with the email address you used at checkout we can look up the payment attempt and help you.

Can I switch plans later?

Yes. Just write to us at support@amboss-app.de — we will switch your allowance over.

Problems & error messages

The panel in Premiere will not connect — what can I do?

There is almost always a simple cause. Work through this list in order:

  1. Both running? The AMBOSS app and Premiere Pro have to be open at the same time.
  2. Sequence open? Without an open sequence the panel will not connect — open your project and a sequence.
  3. Reopen the panel: in Premiere, close it and open it again under Window → Extensions → AMBOSS.
  4. Restart Premiere: quit it completely and open it again — that fixes most cases.
  5. Versions current? Update Premiere Pro and macOS to the latest version (see above).
  6. First launch: the very first time, give it a moment — AMBOSS sets itself up once.

If nothing helps: restart your Mac, then open AMBOSS first, Premiere second. Still no luck? Write to us at support@amboss-app.de.

AMBOSS does not show up under "Window → Extensions"

After installing, restart Premiere Pro completely once — after that AMBOSS shows up under Window → Extensions. Also make sure AMBOSS has been launched as an app at least once and that you are on a current Premiere version. If you have several Premiere versions installed, open the panel in the newest one.

The AMBOSS panel stays empty or white

Close the panel and open it again (Window → Extensions → AMBOSS). If that does not help, restart Premiere once. You should have an active internet connection, and on the very first launch loading can take a moment.

The panel says "Verbunden" (German for "connected"), but nothing happens

Click into your sequence in the timeline once so that it becomes active — AMBOSS always works with the currently active sequence. If no sequence is open, open your project or create a sequence, then start the step you want in the panel again.

"Bitte zuerst den Rohschnitt laufen lassen" (German for "please run the rough cut first")

The AI cleanup works on the individual clips that the rough cut creates. If your timeline is still a single long clip, that basis is missing. Run the rough cut (silence removal) first, then the cleanup.

The app says "Warte auf Sequenz vom Panel …" (German for "waiting for sequence from the panel")

The app is waiting for data from Premiere. Checklist: is Premiere running? Is the AMBOSS panel open (Window → Extensions → AMBOSS)? Is a sequence actually open? With long sequences, reading the timeline in can take up to a minute. If it hangs: close the panel and open it again.

"Lizenz ungültig" or "Zugang widerrufen" (German for "invalid licence" and "access revoked")

Either the licence key was entered incorrectly (a typo, a missing character) or the subscription has expired or been cancelled. Check your membership at Whop. If the subscription is active and the error stays, write to us — we will check the licence right away.

"Tageslimit erreicht" (German for "daily limit reached")

This message only shows up with unusually heavy use in a single day — in normal day-to-day work you will practically never see it. The next day everything continues automatically.

Captions/render stops with a message about disk space

To render captions, the app needs enough free space on your hard drive. Free up a few gigabytes (empty the trash, delete old render files) and start the process again.

I applied a step and want to undo it

Every AMBOSS step creates a restore point before it changes anything. Use the undo button in the app for that step — your timeline is then back in the state it was in before.

The licence email never arrived

Check your spam and promotions folders first (sender lizenz@amboss-app.de). Nothing there? Write to us at support@amboss-app.de from the email address you used at checkout — we will send the key out manually.
